4 Methods to Change MS SQL Server Password August 10, 2010

Have you ever forgot or lost your MS SQL Server password? Did you reinstall MS SQL Server or change SQL Server Password by some ways at that time? I once forgot my MS SQL Server password and I reinstalled My MS SQL at last as I failed to find some good methods to solve the problem. What annoying and terrible experience it is! In order to avoid reinstalling SQL Server for a second time due to the same reason, so I collect some methods to change SQL Server password for sa account.

Method 1: Use Command Prompt to Change SQL Server Password

Step 1. Open a command prompt (Start -> Run -> cmd)

Step 2. Type the follow commands, and press Enter after each line:

Osql -S yourservername -E

1> EXEC sp_password NULL, ‘yourpassword’,  ‘sa’

2> GO

The yourservername is the name of your server, yourpassword is the new sql sa password.

The command line 1> also can be changed to other command, the model is EXEC sp_password ‘oldpassword’, ‘newpassword’, ‘sqlaccount’.

Method 2: Use the Query Windows in Management Studio to Change MS SQL Server Password

Step 1. Open SQL Server Management Studio

Step 2. Open a new query

Step 3. Type the follow commands and excute:

GO

ALTER LOGIN [sa] WITH DEFAULT_DATABASE=[master]

GO

USE [master]

GO

ALTER LOGIN [sa] WITH PASSWORD=N’NewPassword’ MUST_CHANGE

GO

The NewPassword is set for your SQL Server sa account.

Method 3: Change SQL Server Password by Windows Authentication

If Builtin/Administrator is present in SQL Server, you can login with an ID which is member of Administrators group and change sa password in SQL Server. Just do as follows:

1. Login into SQL server using Windows Authentication.

2. In Object Explorer, open Security folder, open Logins folder. Right Click on sa account and go to Properties.

3. Type a new SQL sa password, and confirm it. Click OK to finish.

After restarting SQL Server and all its servers, you can log into SQL Server by sa login with new SQL sa password.

Method 4: Change MS SQL Server Password with Third Party Software

How to reset Windows Vista user and administrator password August 3, 2010

Need to reset your Windows Vista user password? You can log on as an administrator to reset Vista password on command prompt.

1) Press F8 when your Windows Vista PC is booting. You will come to the Advanced Boot Options. Then choose Safe Mode with Command Prompt and press Enter.
2) Enter safe mode with an available admin account.
3) Type “net user” and press Enter. The command prompt will show you all accounts on the Windows Vista PC.
4) Type “net user Teery abc” (Teery is your account name, it can be all other user and administrator accounts, and abc is the new password) and press Enter. Now you have successfully created a new password for the account.
5) Type “shutdown -r -t 00” and press Enter.
Your Windows Vista PC should be rebooted automatically and then you can logon Windows Vista with the new password.

If your computer has more than one administrator accounts, then you can log on as some administrator account to reset all other users and administrators password with the same methord.

If you cant remember your only administrator password, you need to use Windows password recovery tool to reset the password, or reinstall your system with Boot-CD. If you have created a Windows password reset disk, you also can easily reset your Windows password with it.

How to reset Windows XP user and administrator password

If you forgot a Windows XP user password, you can log on as an administrator to reset the password. Follow this:
1) Restart the computer.
2) Press CTRL+ALT+DELETE twice, then type the name of the administrator user account.
3) Type the administrator password in the password box, and then click OK.
4) Click START ->> RUN ->> Type ‘control userpasswords2’ ->> click OK.
5) On the Users tab, click the name of the user account that you want to reset the password for, and then click Reset Password.
6) Type a new password in the New password box, and then type the password again in the Confirm new password box, and then click OK.
7) Restart the computer, and then try to log on to Windows again.

If your computer has more than one administrator accounts, then you can log on as some administrator account to reset all other users and administrators password with the same methord.

But if you forgot or lost the only one administrator password, you need to use Windows Password Reset/Recovery Disk to recover the password, or reinstall the system with Boot-CD.
